Dear Friends and Family,
Well the first two weeks of classes seemed to go really well. I have five classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting at the ungodly hour of 7:40 and ending in the evening at 4:55 (yeah, an odd time I know).
A typical day goes like this. Wake up at seven (or sometimes 6:30 because my roommate enjoys the morning and gets up at six even though he doesn't have a class until nine). Get dressed rush off to class. I then sit down in Mr. Hinkerson's theology class, in our assigned seats (just like in high school). He then proceeds to lecture in a very monotone voice, mention things from the textbook verbatum, and quote the writer of our book about thirty times within the hour. He gives us his outlines, powerpoint, and a review sheet for exams. You could literally not go to his class and get an A.
Next, is general education (or Comtemporary Issues) with Dr. Troy Matthews. He's Australian, looks like Mr. Incredible (no joke), and is really funny. Not a hard class at all and it ends before Thanksgiving, which is nice.
Then at 10 AM, the ENTIRE student population attends convocation (or chapel). That's right all 10,400 of them. The speakers so far have been pretty good, except for last Friday. Whoever spoke was not very good at capturing the students attention. But maybe that's because it was a Friday.
Finally at 11, I have a break. I usually read my books for my afternoon classes, check e-mail, read my Bible, go to sleep in the library, etc. I eat lunch about 12:30 or so, and then head off for a class at 1:45.
Communications 101. The professor Dr. Allison, is really funny and has a good lecture style. We have three speechs due in the class and he makes many political jokes.
After that, I head downstairs, into the courtyard, and into the Applied Science Hall. Where I have Psychology 210, or developmental psyc. Dr. Janet Brown is nice, but kind of unorganized. Her thoughts are everywhere and nowhere; but she shows us a lot of videos which burns up a lot of time. Her tests are online and open book, which is really nice. Class ends at 3:45 and it's off to the Fine Arts Hall.
Final class of the day and it's Humanities with professor Mills. He calls the roll (all 140 names) and it's like "Bueller, Bueller." He is quite witty, but very dry. Not monotone, just dry. His lecture style is akin to reading an outline, "Roman numeral one, Ancient Eygpt.....Sub-point A.......Sub-point B....." But it makes it easy to take notes because he speaks soooo fast. Class ends at 4:55 and I head over to eat dinner. Then I have the rest of the night off.
Then on Tuesday's and Thursday's I sleep in until 10:30 or so (i bought earplugs to sleep through the alarms). I eat and then go to geography class with professor Ritchie. So far it's really easy. Maybe it's because I love geography so much. Then Tuesday evenings we have hall meetings and Wednesday is campus church.
That's my week at a glance. I hope that I didn't bore you too much. If you got all the way through this e-mail then you can pat yourselves on the back. GO YOU!!!!! OH!!! I almost forgot I got into the play here called "Crazy for You" as a cowboy. Rehearsals are going well but are sort of unorganized. Have a great Sunday!
